Flower Power

Decorating home with a bunch of flowers got to be one of the most easiest and inexpensive ways of doing the interiors. Different flower pattern and colours add different look to the space and also are a good source for bringing in the freshness and fragrance to ones home.

Here it’s some shots of flowers that I have used in my home decor.

Brightly coloured gladiolus.

Some light shades of gladiolus. 🌸

I love these white and red center gladiolus as it gives that exotic look. 👀

Pink shades of gladiolus. It’s fun to work with these beautiful flowers 🌺 around my home.

Turtle Space – Heavy Petting

Turtles are basically freshwater and/or saltwater dwellers with the hard cartilaginous shell which protects these creatures from there natural predators and yet are reptiles. As I grew old, I developed interest in these creatures and pet keeping practices. Today, I am a proud owner of five Red Ear Slider freshwater turtles. Here’s the picture of these turtles when I first brought them.

They were not more than the size of a coin when I initially brought them from the local pets store. At this stage, they are very fragile and delicate and required great amount of care and nutrition. During their juvenile stage, they basically survive on non vegetarian food and later,  as the age progresses, they tend to turn more vegetarian in their diet.

Few more shots of these cute babies. I also had three golden apple snails in their tank to limit the wastage inside the enclosure and help in increasing the water quality. The pink colored pebbles are my sister’s choice (of course, I was going with the color green). 🤓 Turtles have a lot of personality and we enjoy every bit of this pet keeping. A bit of nature in my home.

It’s been more than two years now since we brought them to our home. It’s an amazing feeling seeing these turtles grow right in front of my eyes. Its been my routine to feed the turtles first thing in the mornings since two years. They do shed there skin and shell scales annually.

Today they have grown into this monstrous size. 😁 We feed them their staple turtle feed once a day as these are still juvenile. Occasionally, I feed them the dried blood worms and shrimps as treats.

Few single still shots of these beauties.

Clifford basking in the mossy coral rock.

So yes, these boys do have their names. Here we go, the first turtle in the above picture is Turbo, male and very fast and restless. The next one is Megatron, female. Followed by Optimus Prime – male, Clifford – female and Beans – female. They are still a bit skittish but a lot better than before. Now I handle them for comfortably.

Aren’t these so cute??☺️ They enjoy the new water and I clean the enclosure weekly. It’s extremely important to keep the water clean and hygienic as dirty water causes infections to turtles. I make sure that I am not putting the fresh water from the tap into their enclosure. Freshwater from the tap risks in containing chlorine in them as a safety measure which are extremely harmful to aquatic animals.

Clifford the destructa! She gets very agitated when I change and clean the enclosure. She circles the whole space and femilierize herself first. Here’s she is destroying my filter equipment. More pics to come soon.

Flower Urils

Urli or Uruli is basically a wide open metal container filled with water and floating flowers. It first originated in the South India in the use of making Ayurvedic medicines. Later on, it made its presence in to Indian Decors and now widely used in interiors and exterior home designs. Today, it’s available in vivid varieties from terracotta to brass and in all shapes and sizes.

That’s our brass Urli with floating fresh roses. Urlis are the best and easiest way of bringing in the freshness and fragrance of flowers to your homes. One can even add floating lamps or candles to give it a more festive look!

Here’s showcasing my different urlis collected over the time now adorning my home decor. So as you can see, I got a solid brass Urli and four different types of terracotta urlis. Different flowers can be used in different patterns and color contrasts for the glam look. It’s more of a personal preference in choosing the flowers for the Urli. Anyone can create this amazing looking urlis in few minutes.

As we have just entered the September month, the festivals are lined up starting with my favorite, Ganesh Chaturthi. I am all prepared for the festival decorations with these beautiful urlis. Are you? ☺️

Brass Ganeshas

Ever since I was a kid, I had a special liking towards the elephant headed God – Ganesha. I’ve always been very fascinated by Ganesha and the stories related. Since my childhood, I’ve been collecting the idols of this god from various temples, tours and places visited. Ganesha or simply Ganesh is the lord of new beginnings, wealth and knowledge. Ganapati is the remover of obstacles. It gives me an immense pleasure as I share my brass Ganesha collection with you all.

Here’s my Ganeshas. Alright, so on the left hand side, is the Ganesha in a dancing pose or Nirthya Ganesha. It’s about eight to nine inches in length and approx six to seven kilograms or probably more in weight. Placed on a beautiful peacock designed puja seat (shared below). The right hand side is a beautifully crafted traditional  Ganesh lamp. The whole look is completed with the traditional peacock brass oil lamp, brass kalash with colorful lilies and candle stands.

A very ethnic and traditional Indian design on these seat for the gods caught my attention immediately as soon as I set my eyes on it in a local store here in Hyderabad.

Here’s a shot without the garlands. I love the temple designs and hence, South Indian designs are my favorite. I enjoy these beautiful pieces at my home everyday. My divine space at home.

Single shots on my Ganeshas. Freshly made garlands offered to the gods.

Here’s yet another piece from my collection. Lord Ganesha seated in a chariot being driven by the mouse. One of my personal favorites. Makes a perfect coffee table vignette.

Ganesha – The Elephant Headed God

Ganesh Chaturthi
It’s that time of the year when we all gear up to host and invite the Hindu deity, Ganesha to our homes. Yes, it’s Ganesh Chaturthi festival, one of the two most significant and grandest Indian festivals celebrated in my home. We all are more than prepared and excited to bring the Lord and start the festivities.

This year I have gone Eco or green (per preference) as we have not purchased a plaster of Paris idol but a complete solid brass Ganesha idol. It gives such an ethnic and traditional look to the idol.

Puja ceremonies at home. The idol has been installed on this clean wooden table in my home. I’ve used this gold and red sheets of cloth as spreads. Offerings to the Lord Ganesha. Coconuts, traditional oil lamps, fresh flowers, druva (grass), water, turmeric, saffron, unbroken rice grains and mango leaves.

Evening puja and Aarathi.

Day 2 celebrations and puja at home. Well, today I have used these beautiful red lotus candle stands for that divine and glam quotient. Fresh flower garlands and fruits as the offerings to the lord Ganesha.

Garlands in the making! Loose flowers waiting to be attached to the string and transform into the holy garlands for the gods. May the lord bless us all and take away all our obstacles and problems.
